OVERVIEW

The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic recession have negatively affected many people’s mental health and created new barriers for people already suffering from mental illness and substance use disorders. During the pandemic, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, a share that has been largely consistent, up from one in ten adults who reported these symptoms from January to June 2019. To address this, having a one-stop-center for mental health information is very important to combat a rising mental health issue, especially in this new digital era of technology.

HOW I APPROACHED THE CHALLENGE

The Adobe PDF APIs made it extremely easy to share content on the web. I was able to showcase various methods of combating mental health issues, in a very clear and efficient manner, using the Adobe PDF’s multitude of options that are made available by Adobe.

The Adobe PDF API also provides Google Analytics tracking which allows for statistical records of end-user interactions within the PDF to be viewed in a Google Analytics dashboard. This data is potentially very helpful for the Department of Mental Health to understand how people are looking to overcome their mental health issues. This data, in turn, can be put to use in real-world solutions in the best possible manner to those in need.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This challenge provided a tremendous opportunity for me to give back to the community during a time of need. Having seen friends and family suffer from long hours of being locked-down and mentally exhausted, I felt the need to take part in this challenge, as it gave me a channel to share various methods for improving mental health which have been proven to be helpful to me in the past.

This challenge opened up my understanding on the power behind Adobe PDF APIs. Not only are they useful for rendering information, these APIs provide a means for web developers, like me, to better understand the users of our websites. It also got me to successfully create a wave of awareness on the solutions available to combat mental health issues among our community. I would love to give my appreciation towards Adobe’s PDF team for implementing this brilliant yet simple solution for anyone, with or without professional experience, to leverage PDFs on web pages!
